Kyle Martin is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota and CentraCare. Originally from Canada, he completed his medical doctorate and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. Kyle then moved to Oslo with his young family in 2017 for a one-year clinical fellowship with the Oslo University Hospital, Olympiatoppen, and Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre. He followed that up with a second sports medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota prior to joining the University of Minnesota in 2019. He is dual board certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine in Canada and the USA, also holding a diploma of sport and exercise medicine through the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Kyle’s clinical practice focuses on knee, hip, and shoulder orthopaedic sports medicine. He is also team physician for St. Cloud State University as well as the St. Cloud Rox baseball team.

His current research interest relates to the clinical translation of machine learning, large language models, and computer vision within orthopedic sports medicine. He is engaged in ongoing collaboration with several clinicians and researchers within the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre and the Norwegian Knee Ligament Register to pursue improved understanding of ACL reconstruction outcome and improved patient care.

In his spare time, Kyle enjoys traveling and has visited over 35 countries. He is a PADI certified Advanced Open Water Diver and his main interests are cycling, spending time with family, and pretending he’s still an athlete.
