The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center turns 10 years
Intoduction
The 10 year anniversary of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center was celebrated at the semiannual research retreat for the Department of Sports Medicine with 55 participants and guests.
The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center was established in May 2000, inaugurated by a research retreat at Brøttum Gård near Lillehammer. Guests at the time included professor Willem van Mechelen from Amsterdam and dr. Robert Leach, the then-editor of the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Since then, we have learned from leading experts in the fields of sports medicine and injury prevention research from all around the world.
This year’s seminar marked the 10-year anniversary of the center, and our guest list included Domhnall MacAuley, editor of the British Medical Journal, Karim Kahn (to the right), editor of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, and professor Heather McKay from the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility at University of British Columbia, Canada.
From Amsterdam, we were joined by Evert Verhagen from the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the EMGO Institute, who also attended the 2000 seminar, as a young PhD student.
The purpose of these seminars is to share information on planned and on-going projects within the group and with other research groups nationally and internationally, as well as to subject all planned and ongoing projects to an ’audit’ by external researchers. To that end, an international faculty of 3-4 researchers are invited to participate in the seminars each year.
If you want read some of Domhnall MacAuley’s impressions from the seminar, check out his blog.
