Successful World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention held in Tromsø
Intoduction
More than 700 participants from 55 countries attended the Second World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in Tromsø (the Land of the Midnight Sun) in the end of June.
The scientific program included 5 keynote lectures, 19 symposia with 127 lectures, 21 workshops and over 180 presentations and posters of scientific reports from world leading sports medicine experts to young and enthusiastic colleagues.
The keynote lectures covered topics from a new framework of studying overuse injuries to different insight in injury prevention from practical models, biomechanical and epidemiological strategies and risk management in sports.
Additionally, a three-days pre-congress was also arranged right before the World congress on Injury prevention, ”The Advanced Team Physician Course”, at Svinøya rorbuer in the Lofoten that attracted 80 participants.
More than 180 presentations
Many of the world leading experts within sports injury and injury prevention were gathered to present and discuss important results and aspects of research within intervention, epidemiology, injury mechanisms and ways to influence government policies.
Most of the presentations are now available on the Congress website (powerpoint and sound). The remaining presentations will be published in the near future.
Social program
The enthusiastic participants experienced various social events including a get-together in arctic surroundings and midsummer experience in a fishing dock. Some even found out what the Land of the Midnight Sun can offer with a mountain hike at midnight in full sun (picture above taken at 02.00 am).
Third world congress on injury prevention in Monaco in 2011 on the IOC-paraply
The President of the IOC Medical Commission, Professor Arne Ljungquist announced that the IOC now will take over this congress after the founders at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center.
It has already been decided that the Third World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention will be held in Monaco in 2011.
We are all looking forward to meet again in Monaco in 2011.
