Report from the Fourth World Congress of Biomechanics

Intoduction

More than 1500 attendants were gathered in Calgary at the 2002 WCB to experience the new findings of biomechanists world wide. The OSTRC was represented by PhD-student Tron Krosshaug.

The IVth World Congress of Biomechanics was held in Calgary, Canada 4-9 August, 2002. An overwhelming 10 sessions in parallell were held at the WCB from early morning to late evening Monday to Friday. The quality was exellent, indicated by the low rejection rate (about 6%). Of the highlights, it is tempting to mention Kit Vaughans talk about the developments in the simulation of locomotion in the last decades. Also, injury prevention was highlighted, and Dr. Bruce Elliott gave a very interresting talk about how to prevent injuries in Cricket by biomechanical intervention.

Our own PhD student Tron Krosshaug gave a oral presentation in the session Alpine Skiing - Injury Prevention. His abstract can be found here. You can also read more about the project here.
