Intoduction
Dr Tron Krosshaug and MD PhD student Eirik Kristianslund was recently on a round-trip in Japan in conjunction with the ISAKOS congress. After the congress, Krosshaug and Kristianslund went to the university hospital of Kanazawa and the Japanese Institute of Sports Sciences and Waseda university in Tokyo.
The ISAKOS congress
The ISAKOS congress took place in Osaka, the second largest city in Japan, in the time period April 4-9. This is also the season of cherry blossom in Japan, showing Osaka at it's best for the delegates. Kristianslund presented the paper "Strength and Anatomical Measures in ACL-injured and Non-injured Elite Team Handball Players" whereas Krosshaug presented a poster on "Three-dimensional Joint Kinematics of Non-contact ACL Injury Situations".

Kanazawa university hospital
Next, we went to Kanazawa University Hospital where we were showed around by Dr. Yosuke Shima. Dr. Shima is now back in Kanazawa after doing research at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center in 2007-2008. Dr Krosshaug gave a lecture on video analysis of ACL injuries after invitation by Professor Katsuro Tomita. Several new ideas for future research project collaboration were discussed.

The Japanese Institute of Sports Sciences & Waseda University
The final stage of the tour was at the Japanese Institute of Sports Sciences in Tokyo where we were invited by Professor Toru Fukubayashi and his research group. The Olympic training center was huge and extremely impressive with state of the art equipment of all kinds. Professor Fukubayashi, Dr. Nagano, Dr. Kubota and the rest of the staff explained about the athlete programs as well as the research programs, and even gave us the opportunituy to join their annual gathering for staff and master/PhD students. We thank you again for your hospitality!
