New IOC consensus statement on non-contact ACL injuries

Intoduction

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently arranged a consensus meeting where important aspects of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries were discussed. Twenty researchers from around the world were invited to make consensus statements on epidemiology, risk factors, injury mechanisms, surgical procedures, rehabilitation and prevention.

The meeting took place at IOC’s head quarter in Lausanne, Switzerland. The meeting was chaired by professor Lars Engebretsen, who in addition to being co-chair of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center is Head of Scientific Activities at the IOC. Professor Pär Renström was co-chairing the meeting. The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center was also represented with Grethe Myklebust who participated in the epidemiology group as well as the injury prevention group. Tron Krosshaug took part in the consensus group on injury mechanisms.

The final consensus will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented in a press release from IOC.
