Invitation to submit program proposals for the 2nd World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in June 2008!
Intoduction
Based on the tremendous success of the inaugural 1st World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in 2005, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center will organize the 2nd World Congress from June 26 through June 28, 2008 in Tromsø, Norway. The organizing committee now welcomes your proposals for meeting sessions and speakers. The deadline for submission of proposals is November 1, 2006.
When submitting proposals, please refer to the enclosed definitions of meeting sessions. To be considered for inclusion in the program, your proposal must strictly follow the format outlined in the enclosed instructions. Your proposal will be evaluated by the scientific committee and the final program of invited speakers will be ready by February 1, 2007.
The 2nd World Congress will follow the model of the 2005 congress in Oslo, with a multidisciplinary perspective on sports injury prevention for different sports and different injury types, including studies on intervention methods, epidemiology, risk factors and injury mechanisms. The three-day program will include 5-6 keynote lectures, about 20 symposia, 15-20 workshops, in addition to free communications and posters. Please note that at this time, we are only asking for proposals for keynote lectures, symposia, workshops. The deadline for submission of abstracts for free communications and posters will be January 1, 2008.
Please respond to Tone R. Øritsland at congress2008@nih.no at your earliest convenience, but not later than November 1.
Note that although the congress committee will cover the cost of accommodation and social events for invited speakers, we will not be able to reimburse travel costs, since we plan to invite a considerable number of international speakers to be able to feature a first-class program. We encourage you to visit the congress web site at www.ostrc.no/congress2008 , where more information will be posted over the next few months.
Tromsø is located well above the Arctic Circle, which means that the sun will never set on the congress participants around Midsummer Nights Eve! The city boasts of the northernmost university in the world, but thanks to the Gulf stream, summer temperatures are warm. Tromsø is the gateway to the Arctic and the seven wonders of the north; the fairy-tale coast of Helgeland, the fabled mountain archipelago of Lofoten, the whales off Andenes, the rocky outer coast of Senja Island, the high skies of the Sami heartland, Land's End at North Cape and the Polar Bear Kingdom of Spitsbergen are all within reach from Tromsø.
We welcome your program proposals and look forward to a spectacular congress in the Land of the Midnight Sun in June 2008!
Sincerely yours,
Roald Bahr (s) Fredrik Bendiksen (s)
